Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Someone on here tried to ridicule me a while back for asking the difference between the shirts the fans buy and the ones the players wear.

I still haven't been told the difference.

Reading this thread suggests nobody really knows,

yes, into the players shirts. hence why the stuff people have been buying for years are called replicas. and yet suddenly there's outrage.,...

Very true. I just assumed (with football) all that sort of tech went into all the shirts anyway!

It's been like that for ages mate, i recall when teams started playing in material that was designed to draw sweat away from the body quicker, any tiny thing that shirt manufacturers can do ti help improve performance etc is always an advantage to teams, however small. granted though that the manufacturers make their money from the cheap replica though.

True- just seems unnecessary. To tell you the truth, I don't think I even realised there was any difference between kit you could always buy and kit the players actually wear. (in football at least- well aware of it in other sports where the top actually goes through loads of wear and tear and needs to be extra strong to avoid ripping all the time.)

Don't really understand why there would be any need to have a different 'better/authentic' top for football above and beyond what the 'replica' ones are made of.

Ah well...

"Football is a rip off."

Don't buy the shirt them, quite simple?

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Barcelona were doing this years ago. Dunno what the difference is in material.

Bit like WHU charging £40 for preferential treatment when trying to get the odd ticket.

Football is a rip off.

Can you wear an authentic NFL top?
Are they not cut to take in to account the fucking great big shoulder pads and padding they wear?

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Would they do an authentic shirt in kids sizes anyway and would it still be £90? If you're big enough to wear adults sizes you're big enough to pay for it yourself.

Perhaps there was demand for the authentic kit? they seem to sell well in other sports. if you can market a better product then the better product comes at an increased price.

if anyone feels pressured into buying something they dont want to or cant afford to then i suggest they have a good hard look at themselves, and also at the way they have raised their children.

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Trev- I fully understand the difference between both (although my query which may indicate otherwise was more about what the exact difference was in terms of raw materials used and perhaps craftsmanship) but I'm just not sure why they felt the need to introduce the authentic one aside from just to make money.

I know consumers have a choice but it's just the newest example of greed. Now little Johnny is going to want the 90 quid version to keep up with all his little mates rather than the dowdy plain old 60 quid version. Yes no-one has to buy it, but plenty will feel pressured into it. Mainly probably parents who can ill afford to.

Got told is to do with premier league badges etc being on the so called authentic kit, but then I thought they were on the replicas?

Boogers

Both Chelsea and Man Utd's kits are made by Adidas, not Nike.
